Here’s a list of recent and forthcoming outreach events where you’ll find members of SSAS supporting providers of astronomy activities. Some of these events are free to attend, where you just turn up; and others are for organisations where you have to book in advance. If you’re planning on coming to one of these stargazing events, take a look at our Astronomy Dos and Don’ts before you come.

We are holding an evening of stargazing at Carter’s Corner to raise money for St Wilfred’s. Included in the ticket price is a tea or coffee and biscuits! A forty minute talk from Melanie Davies, FRAS, Science Director & Planetarium Astronomer, will be given on the Pleiades (the Seven Sisters Constellation). This will be visible during February and hopefully (weather permitting) on the evening it will be seen by all. We are also hoping to be able to view the moon and any other planets/stars. In the event of extremely bad weather, the event will still go ahead, and telescopes will be set up inside and be available for public to look at and talk to members of the society. The public should be advised to wrap up warmly and wear sensible footwear as the event will partially be on grass. We will also be holding a grand raffle with many prizes from local businesses.
We have 60 tickets for this event only, and they will be sold on a first come-first serve basis, so do not hesitate and miss out on this great opportunity!
Please contact Annabel (Annabel.email@example.com) for tickets. In the email please state your name and how many tickets you require. Once the email is received you will be contacted with payment details.
Please note ticket sales CLOSE on Saturday 2nd February at 11am, and no tickets can be purchased after this date.
