Benefits of membership
Once you’ve joined the society, we’ll keep you updated with upcoming observing dates. Much of our observing takes place on private land and is only available to members – often at short notice. Observing is obviously dependent on good visibility, so once we decide on an observing site and date, we’ll let you know, and also let you know if it’s cancelled. If attending for the first time, try and read our Astronomy dos and don’ts before you come. Read our constitution here.
The society has a selection of telescopes of its own for use by its members, plus you’re always welcome to bring your own equipment. The society’s scopes are available for members to borrow by prior arrangement. Once a member, you can also tap into the wealth of knowledge offered by the committee and other members, and get help and advice with setting up and aligning your telescope (if needed) at our observing sessions.
As a club, we like to do as much astronomy outreach as possible, and as a member you’ll get the opportunity to take part in outreach too. If you decide that you like doing outreach, and would like to take part more regularly, you can become a STEM Ambassador (STEM = Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) through the society.
